Maryland Improperly Claimed $10 Million For Personal Care Services Provided Under Its Medicaid Home & Community-Based Services Waiver for Older Adults

The federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (OIG) reported that the Maryland State Agency claimed $10.8 million in unallowable costs through federal Medicaid reimbursement for personal care services under their waiver program, the Home and Community-Based Services Waiver for Older Adults. The state agency and the Maryland Department of Aging administer a waiver program that allows the agencies to provide a number of services to Medicaid beneficiaries so they can avoid institutionalization.
