Use of Electronic Health Records in Residential Care Communities, NCHS Data Brief Number 128

Christine Caffrey, Ph.D., and Eunice Park-Lee, Ph.D., of the National Center for Health Statistics of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed data from the 2010 National Survey of Residential Care Facilities (NSRCF). They sought to present baseline electronic health record diffusion rates in the residential care community industry. Residential care communities include assisted living facilities and other facility-based settings for adults that provide room and board plus personal care services. The authors found that 17% of these communities used electronic health records.
