Ohio Proposes Closing Montgomery & Youngstown Developmental Centers By June 2017
On February 20, 2015, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) announced plans to close two of the state’s 10 Developmental Centers by June 30, 2017; the plan affects the Montgomery Developmental Center and Youngstown Developmental Center. Over the past eight years, the number of Developmental Center residents has dropped by 40%, from 1,600 in 2007 to 900 by the end of 2014. DODD projects that the Developmental Center census will continue to decrease by about 90 people each year.
Residents of the Montgomery and Youngstown Developmental Centers will have the option to move to another Developmental Center . . .
