California Files Five-Year Plan to Improve Prison Medical & Mental Health Care
OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Social Services On November 6, 2009, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) filed a detailed five-year plan to provide medical and mental health treatment beds for inmates in response to the federal court order in Coleman v. Schwarzenegger. To provide 2,600 additional mental health treatment beds, CDCR will convert three former juvenile facilities—Stark, Dewitt, and Estrella—construct a new facility in Stockton, and add beds to other facilities and other projects across the state. CDCR is required to provide new beds and treatment space for more than 1,400 inmates . . .
