Health Care Mergers & Acquisitions Down Seven Percent in 2009

The 2009 total of 932 health care transactions represented a seven percent decrease from the 1,001 transactions in 2008. The total dollar volume of the 2009 transactions was $232.9 billion, a three percent increase from the $226 billion in 2008. Four health care technology sectors—Biotechnology, E-Health, Medical Devices, and Pharmaceuticals—were involved in 577 deals, 62% of the total.
