Hospital EMR Penetration Low; Only 1.5% Have Comprehensive Systems
OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Strategic Health Care News Only 1.5% of United States hospitals have a comprehensive electronic medical record (EMR) system that is present in all clinical units. About 7.6% have a basic system that is present in at least one clinical unit. About 17% of hospitals have implemented computerized provider order entry for medications. Many hospitals reported having implemented several key functionalities in one or more areas: 75% of hospitals reported adoption of electronic laboratory and radiologic reporting systems 44% use electronic physiciansÂ’ notes 38% use computerized provider-order entry, but fewer have this function . . .
