Beaver County, Pennsylvania, to Close Allencrest Juvenile Detention Center
OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Childrens Services In April 2009, the Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Commissioners voted to close Allencrest Juvenile Detention Center by the end of 2009. The facility is more than 50 years old and the County Commissioners said it has become infeasible to operate the facility economically. Allencrest has a capacity of 34 juveniles, but as of late February 2009, it housed only 11. The county has made arrangements with Glade Run, Mars Home for Youth, and Cray House to house youth needing emergency shelter.
