Hannaford Brothers Grocery Chain Offers Employees Medical Tourism Benefits

OPEN MINDS On-Line News Strategic Health Care News On January 1, 2008, the Hannaford Brothers grocery store chain, which serves the Northeastern United States, began offering its employees a health plan that features hip and knee replacements at the National University Hospital in Singapore. The move is intended to cut HannafordÂ’s health plan cost. The plan is part of pilot that Hannaford is running in conjunction with Aetna, Inc., which is expected to expand and continue indefinitely. Hannaford is a self-insured company, but sought out Aetna to help run the program. Hannaford employs around 27,000 associates . . .
