14% of U.S. Preschoolers Considered Obese, but Rate is Slowing

OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Children’s Services Between 1998 and 2008, the prevalence of low-income preschoolers considered obese increased from 12.4% in 1998 to 14.5% in 2003. In 2008, 14.6% of preschoolers were considered obese. In 2008, obesity prevalence among low-income preschoolers was less than 10% only in Colorado (9.4%) and Hawaii (9.3%). The highest prevalence areas in 2008 were the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona (23.5%) and 25% for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota.
