Drug Use Among Youth Continues Downward Trend

OPEN MINDS On-Line News Illicit drug use among young people ages 12 to 17 has declined to nine percent in 1999, down from 11.4% in 1997 and 9.9% in 1998. The 1999 National Household Survey, which was released August 31, 2000, showed illicit drug use among the overall population ages 12 and older, however, remained flat. For the first time, the survey provides state-by-state estimates of illicit drug, alcohol, and cigarette use by age group.
