$28 Million Los Angeles County Medicaid Citizenship Verification Effort Finds No Illegal Immigrants on Its Medi-Cal Rolls
OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Strategic Health Care News Los Angeles County has received nearly $28 million in state and federal funds since July 2008 to verify the citizenship of Medi-Cal applicants as required by Medicaid. Although county workers have checked the documents of more than 100,000 Medi-Cal recipients, the workers found no illegal immigrants receiving benefits. In addition, less than one percent of applicants between July 2008 and February 2009 lacked the proper documents.
