Missouri Sex Offender Treatment Program Has Four Percent Recidivism Rate Over Three-Year Period

OPEN MINDS On-Line News About 96% of sex offenders who completed the Missouri Sex Offender Program (MOSOP) at the Farmington Correctional Facility in Missouri had no sexual assault violations three years after completing the treatment. Ten years after completing the treatment, 94% had not been arrested for a repeat sexual offense. The 12-month MOSOP follows guidelines developed by the Association for Treatment of Sexual Abusers. It seeks to teach offenders life skills, coping skills, and how to identify their personal risk factors for committing another offense, including helping them understand how their actions affected their victims.
