Maryland Reduces Group Home Placements by 21% in 2010

Between June 2009 and June 2010, Maryland’'s child welfare jurisdictions reduced their use of group home placements for children in out-of-home care by 21%, from 1,158 in June 2009 to 912 in June 2010. For 2010, only 11% of the state’s 8,013 children in out-of-home care were placed in group homes, exceeding the state’'s goal of having no more than 12% in such placements. The reduction in group home placements took place across all jurisdiction sizes.
