Medicaid Spending Rises to 24% of Total State Spending

In fiscal year 2011, 23.6% of all state spending was for Medicaid, representing about $148.7 billion of the approximately $648 billion for all state spending. In 2010, 22.3% of state spending was for Medicaid, and represented $128 billion of the approximately $623.4 billion in total state spending.
