Telehealth Remote Monitoring Services Cut Patient Deaths by 45%

A large study of telehealth remote monitoring services in the United Kingdom found that telehealth services reduced patient deaths by 45%. The services also reduced emergency department visits by 15% and emergency admissions by 20%. The findings were reported by the British Department of Health in “Whole System Demonstrator Programme: Headline Findings—December 2011.” The Department of Health started the program in May 2008 as a large randomized trial involving 6,191 patients and 238 primary care practices in three sites.
