iRobot Announces Telepresence Robot, AVA
iRobot has developed a new programmable, mobile, telepresence robot, called AVA, that could be used as an assistive independent living device, potentially replacing the need for a human caregiver for persons with disabilities. AVA uses the interface and application capabilities of the Apple iPad and Android-powered devices and is equipped with laser range finders, acoustic sensors, accelerometers, and two PrimeSense sensors that help it navigate around a house or office. AVA can operate for six hours on a single battery charge to power the sensors, its three-wheel mobility platform, and a pivoting “head” mount for the Apple iPad . . .
