ACA To Replace Health Coverage Tax Credit Program As Of January 2014

Implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) provisions for health insurance premium tax credits and cost-sharing subsidies, along with Medicaid expansion, in January 2014 will replace the expiring Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) program that provides health insurance assistance to certain workers. The HCTC expires completely on December 31, 2013. A comparison of the PPACA provisions with the HCTC provisions found that for a majority of the 43,864 HCTC participants in 2010, the PPACA will provide less generous assistance.
