2011 Medicaid Expenditures Increase 6.4% Since 2010, Per Capita Expenses Rose 2.6%

During 2011, total Medicaid expenditures were $427.4 billion for services provided to an estimated 55.7 million people, an increase of $25.9 billion, or 6.4% over 2010 expenditures of $401.5 billion. The federal government spent $270.7 billion on Medicaid expenditures, and the states spent $156.7 billion during 2011. An estimated 70.4 million people were enrolled in Medicaid for at least one month during the year.
