State of New York to Downsize State Juvenile Prisons
On April 1, 2011, the New York Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) began planning to downsize or close more of the state’s underutilized juvenile prisons, with a goal of eliminating 377 beds by March 31, 2012. On April 8, an OCFS spokesperson said the plans were not finalized and that the office was not able to provide specifics about which facilities would be closed and which would be downsized.
