Virginia Delays Medicaid Managed Care Expansion

The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS) is delaying a planned expansion of Medicaid managed care into the Roanoke and Alleghany regions of the state until January 1, 2012. Before the 2011-2013 biennial budget bill was passed, DMAS had a go-live date of July 2011 for the two regions. DMAS delayed the expansion to evaluate proposals submitted in response to its 2010 RFP seeking Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) interested in the Roanoke and Alleghany regions; awards are expected by September 2011.
