Feds To Give $150 Million To Community Health Centers For Assistance In Enrolling Uninsured Under Health Care Reform
On May 9, 2013, the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released $150 million in funding to help community health care centers provide in-person health insurance enrollment assistance to uninsured individuals across the nation. Community health centers include federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), FQHC “look alikes,” and outpatient health programs operated by tribal organizations. Fiscal Year 2013 funding was not available to “look alikes.” Community health center staff will provide unbiased information to consumers about health insurance, the new Health Insurance Marketplace, qualified health plans, and Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
