Subsidized Health Plans Through Exchanges Have Three-Month Grace Period For Lapsed Payments; Physicians At-Risk Of Non-Payment
Starting January 1, 2014, people covered by subsidized Qualified Health Plans (QHP) sold through state and federal health insurance exchanges who fail to pay timely premiums will have a three-month grace period before the health plan cancels the plan, which may leave physicians unpaid for care provided during the grace period. If the individual receives care during the lapsed-payment grace period, the health plan will be responsible for paying claims during the first month of that grace period.
