Maryland Approves 1.65% Hospital Rate Increase

On June 5, 2013, the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) voted to allow a 1.65% increase to the rates acute care hospitals can charge in fiscal year 2014. The increase goes into effect on July 1, 2013, and will be effective through December 31, 2013. The hospitals had sought a higher rate increase, but the HSCRC approved the lesser amount because the state is in talks with the federal government about the terms of a new Medicare waiver that permits the state to set hospital rates.
