Feds Certify That 44 States Have Effective Health Insurance Rate Review Process In Place
As of February 16, 2012, the federal Department of Health and Human Services Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) said that 44 states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories had effective rate review programs for at least one insurance market. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA), which was recently affirmed by the Supreme Court as constitutional, limits individual and small group market health insurance plans from raising premium rates more than 10% without approval from a state or federal Rate Review program.
