40% Of Uninsured Are Unaware Of Individual Mandate To Purchase Health Insurance
As of June 2013, 43% of uninsured Americans reported that they were unaware of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) requirement that most Americans must carry health insurance or pay a fine, effective January 2014. Out of all Americans, both insured and uninsured, awareness was higher at 81%, with 19% reporting that they were unaware of this requirement. Only 14% of insured Americans reported that they were unaware, while 85% said that they had known about the provision previously.
