Government Agrees To PTSD Class Action Settlement for Afghanistan & Iraq Veterans

On August 12, 2011, a federal court approved a class action settlement agreement in Sabo v. United States that will ensure disability benefits and treatment for veterans who served in Afghanistan or Iraq and were discharged from the military after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The class includes service members who served in Iraq or Afghanistan and were discharged between 2003 and 2008 due to PTSD, but were denied veterans disability benefits, including access to mental health treatment, because their level of disability was assessed at less than 50%.
