9.1 Million Health Savings Accounts Open In 2013

In June 2013, there were 9.1 million Health Savings Accounts (HSA) open in the United States, about 30% more than the 6 million in existence in 2012. The average account balance increased by five percent, from $1,879 at the end 2012 to $1,981 by mid-year 2013. A health savings account is linked to a qualified high deductible health plan.
