Insurer Data On Medical Homes Show Cost Savings

The initial results for patient-centered medical homes (PCMH) in insurer health plans show significant cost savings. Insurers report lower medical costs for members enrolled in a PCMH; and insurers report that PCMH participants have fewer emergency department visits, and fewer hospital readmissions. PCMH programs, are now offered by more than 90 commercial health insurance plans, multiple employer-sponsored health plans, 42 state Medicaid programs, numerous federal agencies, and the Department of Defense.
