Mean Per Capita FFS Medicaid Spending $5,296 Between 2001 & 2005; State Means Range Widely

Overall, mean per capita fee-for-service (FFS) Medicaid spending between 2001 and 2005 was $5,296 per year; however, among the states, mean per capita annual spending ranged from $3,413 in Mississippi to $11,819 in Alaska. Of the more than 236 million FFS Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled between 2001 and 2005, about 10% belonged to a subset that received cash assistance, were eligible only for Medicaid (and not Medicare), and had disabilities (CAMODs).
