Safety Net Population In Non-Medicaid Expansion States Tops 1 Million
More than one million uninsured low-income adults who receive care from community health centers will remain in the uninsured safety net population in the 25 states that are not expanding Medicaid eligibility in 2014. Nationwide, 20.2 million people receive care from 1,128 community health centers (and another million receive care from 100 look-alike community health centers). Of the 20.2 million served by community health centers, 7.4 million are currently uninsured, and 5.2 million of the uninsured earn 138% or less than the federal poverty level (FPL).
