Average Non-Profit Hospital CEO Compensation Nearly $600,000
In 2009, the average compensation for chief executive officers (CEOs) of non-profit hospitals and health systems was $595,781, and median compensation was $404 938. CEO pay was associated with the number of hospital beds, teaching hospital status, and urban location—but not associated with readmission rates or measures of community benefit. Among the CEOs with the lowest compensation, the median compensation was $117,933. The lowest paid CEOs were mainly responsible for small, non-teaching hospitals in rural areas.
