California Picks Kaiser HMO As Essential Health Benefits Benchmark Plan

California has selected the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Small Group HMO 30 plan as the state's essential health benefits benchmark plan for health plans to be sold through the state’s health insurance exchange. Enrollments in these plans will start in late 2013. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) requires that individual and small group employer health insurance plans sold through state health insurance exchanges starting in January 2014 provide 10 categories of essential health benefits, and comply with the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008.
