Consumer Out-Of-Pocket Health Care Costs Projected To Decrease By 2016
By 2016, consumer out-of-pocket spending (OOP) on health care costs is projected to drop from an average of $1,463 per person to $34 per person for previously uninsured consumers earning 400% or less than the federal poverty level (FPL). Via the Medicaid expansion provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA), an estimated 11.5 million uninsured people are projected to obtain new health care coverage under Medicaid by 2016.
