Administration Scales Back Expansion Of Community Health Centers by 90%
The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has cut back on a planned expansion of community health centers due to concerns about funding reductions. At the start of fiscal year 2011, Congress had allocated $250 million to establish 350 new patient care sites to serve up to two million people; however, due to a federal budget reduction in April 2011, HRSA awarded only 67 grants with an aggregate value of $29 million, nearly 90% less than anticipated. The new centers will be able to serve 286,000 people. The grant application (HRSA-11-017) was released November 4 . . .
