Using EMR Prescription Data Can Provide Early Identification Of Consumer Non-Adherence

Using prescription data from an electronic medical record (EMR) can provide early identification of consumer non-adherence by flagging records in which a prescription was given but not filled. The traditional method of calculating medication adherence using dispensing data overestimates adherence levels by 16% because this method completely overlooks people who had a prescription but did not fill it. These are findings of “EMR-Based Medication Adherence Metric Markedly Enhances Identification of Nonadherent Patients” by Shepherd Roee Singer, M.D., MPH; Moshe Hoshen, Ph.D.; Efrat Shadmi, Ph.D.; Morton Leibowitz, M.D.; Natalie Flaks-Manov, MPH; Haim Bitterman, M . . .
