OptumRx Launches ProtectRx Pharmacy Cost Management Program
On October 19, 2012, UnitedHealth Group subsidiary OptumRx, a pharmacy benefits management (PBM) organization, launched a new pharmacy cost management program called ProtectRx that features an aggregate stop loss (ASL) feature. The new product is being rolled out nationwide for a January 1, 2013 effective date. The program is intended to be add-on feature for self-insured health plan PBM clients. ASL policies are designed to limit losses to a certain amount. If total claims exceed the aggregate limit, the stop-loss insurance carrier reimburses the employer.
