Humana Expanding Managed Care Presence Through Acquisitions

Health plan company Humana, Inc. is in the process of acquiring two Medicare Advantage health maintenance organizations—Arcadian Management Services and MD Care Medicare Advantage health maintenance organizations (HMO). The HMO acquisitions were announced in August and September 2011; the deals are expected to close December 31, 2011. Additionally, on December 7, 2011, Humana announced plans to acquire Anvita Health, a health care analytics company. Financial terms for the deals remain private. MD Care was founded in 2001.
