January 7, 2002 Senate Approves Bill for District of Columbia Family Court In December 2001, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives approved a measure to establish, for the first time, a family court in the District of Columbia to supervise thousands of children's abuse and neglect cases. The bill would create a family court to be staffed by 15 judges.
