March 13, 2006 Connecticut Autism Services Bill Advances On March 6, 2006, Connecticut legislators considered public testimony about H.B. 5471, which would provide access to services for up to 500 children and adults who have developmental disabilities but do not qualify for specialized services because they do not have mental retardation. The bill, introduced by House Speaker James Amann, would require the Department of Mental Retardation to coordinate services for individuals with autism who are not currently eligible for state services. Advocates say there is a statewide shortage of trained professionals to provide such services to adults with autism . . .
