April 23, 2007 CMS Funds Health Insurance Counseling in 50 States The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that $30 million in grant funding was awarded to state agencies to fund State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs). The awards will fund 54 SHIPs, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. The SHIPs bring free, personalized assistance to people with Medicare at the local level.
