May 5, 2003 Disabled Students Required to Take Assessment Tests Despite that fact that the federal government has not created a standardized test for the disabled, when President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 on January 8, 2002, the act made it a law that schools are not permitted to exempt students from taking assessment tests based on disabilities – even for children who are severely disabled.
