May 20, 2002 Seniority System Upheld Against ADA, Supreme Court Decides April 29, 2002 the Supreme Court ruled that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should not override a company's seniority system. In US Airways v. Barnett, No. 00-1250, the justices, for the first time, examined the meaning of "reasonable accommodation" under the provisions of the ADA governing private employers.
