May 26, 2003 Dallas United Way Finds Increased Poverty in Dallas Suburbs Suburban areas around Dallas have had growing numbers of residents presented with challenges requiring social services, according to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ annual community assessment. While suburbs did demonstrate an increased need in 2002, urban Dallas County continues to have the most residents living in poverty. Other key findings of the study included: The Dallas metropolitan area in this assessment includes four counties: Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, and Denton.  85% of the people in the metropolitan Dallas area with income below the poverty level live in Dallas . . .
