ResCare Iowa To Pay $5.6 Million To Settle Allegations It Failed To Provide In-Person Face-To-Face Patient Assessments For Home Care
On February 10, 2015, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that ResCare HomeCare Iowa had agreed to pay $5.6 million to resolve allegations that it submitted claims for home health services but failed to document whether in-person face-to-face assessments required by Medicare and Iowa Medicaid were conducted. The DOJ alleged that from 2009 through 2014, ResCare Iowa failed to document that an independent physician had conducted the face-to-face assessments to certify that the home health services were medically necessary and to order the type and amount of services to be provided.
