Kentucky Considers Building New Psychiatric Hospital

June 21, 2004 Kentucky Considers Building New Psychiatric Hospital Two of Kentucky's three state-operated psychiatric hospitals are under consideration for replacement by a single facility. State officials are considering selling Eastern State Hospital (Lexington) and Central State Hospital (Louisville) and building a 300-bed psychiatric facility between Lexington and Louisville within ten miles of an interstate highway. A draft of a "concept paper" requested by state Health and Family Services Secretary James Holsinger Jr. and released on June 11, 2004, says the new hospital would cost $60 million to $70 million, but potentially could save on other costs . . .
