Despite PPACA Reforms, New Primary Care Patient Visits Virtually The Same Between 2013 & 2014
Although millions Americans gained health insurance thanks the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), there was not a significant increase in new patient visits to primary care providers. In 2013, 22.6% of all appointments were new patient visits, in 2014 only 22.9% of all appointments were new patient visits. In addition, the percentage of patients with complex medical conditions decreased over the same time period, from 8% of all appointments in 2013, to 7.5% of all appointments in 2014.
