Youth Villages Program For Youth Aging Out Of Foster Care Improved Participants’ Economic & Mental Well-Being

Young adults who aged out of foster care and who participated in a specialized Youth Villages Transitional Living Program had better economic and mental well-being than young adults who did not participate in the program. The program, called YVLifeSet, was evaluated in an outcomes comparison of young adults aging out of Tennessee Department of Children's Services (DCS) care who were randomly assigned to receive the YVLifeSet or traditional services. One year after aging out, those assigned to YVLifeSet had earnings that were 17% higher than the comparison group. The YVLifeSet participants were 22% less likely to be homeless . . .
