July 16, 2001 Hospital CEO Turnover Rate Remains Steady Turnover for hospital chief executive officers (CEOs) dropped slightly in 2000 to 17 percent, down slightly from 18 percent in 1999, and up just 1 percent from 1996 when the turnover rate was 16 percent. Two-thirds of the turnover was voluntary, said Thomas Dolan, President and CEO of the American College of Healthcare Executives. The remaining one-third of the turnover was involuntary, he added.
