October 8, 2007 SEIU Union Demonstrates Outside Carlyle Group Headquarters Over Acquisition of Manor Care On September 19, 2007, more than 150 members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) held a demonstration march outside the Washington DC headquarters of private equity giant Carlyle Group, protesting the proposed $6.3 billion acquisition of Manor Care. The demonstration was led by John Reed, director of SEIUÂ’s health-care unit in Maryland. Protesters were unable to deliver their list of demands to Carlyle executives, which included a request for disclosure of how changes might affect nursing-home workers, residents, and taxpayers . . .
