October 15, 2001 DHHS Approves Mississippi's Plan to Speed Up SCHIP Enrollment The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on October 5, 2001 approved a plan by Mississippi to speed up enrollment for children in the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The amendment to the state's plan would allow immediate enrollment for children in families whose income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, which works out to $35,300 annually for a family of four.
